Workshop Weekend May 23-25

Here's the short of it:

May 23-25
Synctuarie
$10 pre-pay meal-plan (rhellemans2(at)gmail(dot)com) *
$5 at door for workshop

Workshops will be:
LED/Lighting
Yarn/Wool dying
Hoop making and dancing (fire hoop instructional even)

Also going on:
L3K work (come out if you're going out with L3K team this year)
SN effigy work
Burning Man virgin meet-up

*The meal plan covers meals for Breakfast and Lunch Sat & Sun and dinner on Sat. This is gourmet dining on a dime. Last time we had Pork Centerloin, cold green beans in a blu cheese garlic sauce, green salad with home-made mustard balsamic dressing. This fed about 20+ people for one dinner. We have delicious vegetarian fare as well. And as always, wonderful community member Rebecca purchases and cooks it all up for us. We love her, her cooking, and her generosity.

Howdy folks! I'm bringing you news of ways to help out Scorched Nuts by camping with friends and tickets changes and updates.

)*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*(

SN Volunteer Work Weekend
May 31-June 1
Hannon's Camp America

As we quickly approach the second year for Scorched Nuts (http://scorchednuts.org) we wanted to let you know of a way to benefit the community, the event, and the camping venue. Burners from IN, KY, and OH will be gathering at Hannon's Camp America (the venue for Scorched Nuts) from May 31st to June 1. We'll be camping out (free tent camping, $10 bunk rental if that's your thing), painting signs, digging post holes, building bridges, and ladders into tree houses. This work is mutually beneficial to the community and Hannon's. Come help us foster more community growth and give back. And as always is the case when Burners gather to work, we'll have an amazingly good time.

)*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*(

SN Ticket Changes and Updates

Hey folks, we've been looking over our ticket sales deadlines and have decided to make a couple of quick, and beneficial to the procrastinator, revisions. First, the deadline for mail-in orders has been pushed back to May 31st for the postmarked date. If it's postmarked after that you're check or money order will be sent back in the mail and you'll have to purchase your ticket on-line or with a vendor. Secondly, tickets will be on sale on-line and will vendors until June 12th. After that time you can purchase your tickets at the gate. Also, you have until midnight tonight to purchase a ticket for the $30 price, after that until June 12th tickets will be $40. We've also lowered the gate price to $50. All deadlines, unless otherwise noted, are until 11:59pm of the date listed. Also please note that there has been a gate policy change, there will be NO in-and-out passes this year. Be prepared to come and stay. You will not be permitted to leave and come back once you exit the gates. Thank you.

To summerize:

Mail-in postmark Deadline: May 31st for $40 tickets
On-line/Vendor Deadline: June 12th for $40 tickets
$30 Ticket Deadline (on-line only): May 12th
$40 Ticket Deadline: June 12th
$50 Gate Ticket Sales: June 19th during gate hours - June 21st at 5pm
No leaving once you've arrived.

)*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*()*(

Thank you all for your help and your patience. We hope to see you out at Scorched Nuts, or any of the upcoming events, gatherings, work weekend, etc that we have going on through out the year.

As always, be safe, be happy, and have fun.

For more info check out: http://www.daytoncircus.org

Deadline for submissions to The Sideshow 2008 is March 16th.

Share your work at The Sideshow, an event of grand proportions!

Friday May 16th and Saturday May 17th 2008
At a venue in Downtown Dayton (To Be Announced)

The Sideshow is an annual event in cooperation with The Dayton Circus Creative Collective. Previous year's events connected many genres of art, from music and food to installation and performance art - spectacular nights showcasing many artists both new and established, from many diverse backgrounds. This year's event will be even more incredible. Join us at The Sideshow and share your artistic vision with Dayton and the World!!

We are open to art of all forms. If you've never shown your artwork or performed publicly before, The Sideshow may be the perfect event for your debut! Static artists have the opportunity to show their work in creative instillations, and two stages will be made available to musical acts and performance artists. We encourage musical acts to include visual or interactive parts to their performance. If you have a vision to be realized in another way, please contact us, we may be able to accommodate you. We want you to help us create a show that Dayton will remember.

APPLICATION

Please include the following information:
1. Your Name/Your Group's Name
2. What does your creation look or sound like? How do you affect your audience? What do you want them to feel, think, and experience?
3. How much space will you need to share your art? If performing, how much time?

Please remember to include visuals and/or audio of your work. Artwork submitted by those chosen as contributing artists may be used in promotion of The Sideshow, The Dayton Circus Creative Collective, and especially YOU. All artists will be encouraged to make their work available for sale, and there is no commission fee for selling work at The Sideshow. If you choose to donate any of your proceeds, the contribution will be tax deductible.

If you are selected as a contributing artist, members of The Dayton Circus will gladly assist you in meeting obligatory periodic "milestones" including: preparing an artist's statement, contributions for promotional materials, attendance at planning meetings and installation of work. This is a cooperative community event, and all contributors will be required to volunteer one day (4-8 hours) of effort beyond the installation of their own work. You will soon find out how exhilarating, stimulating and rewarding is to work with such an energetic and creative group! We want this show to not only include your creation but your energy as well.

We would like to challenge you to avoid using paper, CDs or other resources unnecessarily. It is preferred that you submit your application letter via e-mail to thesideshow@DaytonCircus.org with 2-5 examples of your work attached. We prefer MP3's for Audio, YouTube for video, and JPG's for photos, though we can work with most digital formats. We may request more examples of your work before making our decision.

Tiffany Clark would love to help you put together your application. You can reach her at (937) 878-0006

For general inquiry contact:
Tiffany @937-878-0006 or jordynnevin@aol.com

Workshop Weekend

When - Feb. 1-3
Where - The Grove (Middletown, OH directions upon request)
How Much - $5

There are no invitations really to the Workshop Weekend. You see a posting about one and you decide to come out. It's just that easy. heeheehee

The workshops are normally 'given' at a set time, however, it's also VERY loose and we run on burner time, so it's a lot of 'ish'.

I think that we're just gonna have two workshops this time around. First, it's winter and we're all a little on the tired side. Secondly, I'm sure that we'll be up to MORE than just the two workshops.

Here's the WW line-up:
Saturday - 2to4pm - Herbal/Medicinal Teas & Tinctures
Saturday - 5to7pm - Digeridoo

Friday and Sunday do not have a scheduled workshop, however, that doesn't mean that we don't have fun, don't learn new things, etc.
Remember if you have electronics questions Tim is more than happy to help and if you have hoop questions, I'm more than happy to help. If you have a hoop, I'd suggest bringing it along, hoops are always welcome and fun.

Okay...some necessities:

$5 to cover workshop costs
Sleeping bag
*Air mattress
Food and/or drink to share
Ideas
Questions

You can come up Friday (Feb. 1st) after 5pm. Even though we don't have any workshops scheduled on Friday it looks like we're gonna be having a Fimo Friday Party. So bring along some Fimo (Sculptey, Premo, etc), any tools you have, and make something out of Fimo with us. There tends to be SOMEthing going on the whole weekend, even if it's just sitting around and talking. The conversations are nothing if not entertaining. :D

See you all SOON!

* Indicates a non-necessity, however, you may be want it. There will be a lot more space in which to crash this time, as opposed to NYE, plus the music won't be as loud or going on for as long. So that'll help with the sleeping.

Circus arts workshops?

I've started holding Workshop Weekends in Middletown, Ohio on a variety of subjects. One thing that seems to be in high demand right now is stilts. So I was wondering if any of you wonderful Circus Arts folks who would like to maybe hold a workshop in the future (say April-ish)? Pm me if you have any questions about the workshops, would like to attend one, and/or would be able and willing to hold a workshop (not just stilts....we want to learn it all....we're greedy like that....heeheehee). Thanks!

New Albany, IN art action!

Those beautiful folks in Southern Indiana are at it again. New Albany knows what art is and how to have fun. So, come January 25 and 26 make your way to the New Albany Brewing Company for "The Worst Art Show EVER!". If the last art show is any indication of what's to come then this will be a show to check out. Not only was there art on the walls, but there were fire performances, musicians doing their thing, and The Contraption (a human powered art 'car' with flame effects).....totally awesome. The art was great, performances were inspiring and ass-shaking, and the people were amazing. Bring yourself and some friends. Make a night of it. Be your creative, dynamic selves and join the fray. Oh....and don't forget, that if you're the drinking type....it IS at a brewery after all, and it's STILL all ages. How cool is that?

Hey folks! An opportunity to help out on playa (Burning Man) this year has come to my attention. See, down in Jeffersonville is a guy who needs someone to help (on-playa) with set-up/tear-down and safety on a fire belching project. He's also looking for someone to help with driving to and from the event. If you act fast there's a possibility of a comp ticket to the 2007 Burn in it for ya (like in life, there is no guarantee). So, if you're interested, think that you have the ability/desire to lend that helping hand, just pm me your e-mail addy and I'll put you in contact.

THANKS!

May 3-6 (Thurs-Sun)

So, here's the deal, right now there are three definite camp members and one maybe. Not a lot of people, but there's still time to plot and plan. So, this year we're working on a camp that will consist of a double dome design (one dome for the public and one for our private camp use with a fire barrell....which would heat the public dome during the evening), a stage for performances of any kind (if you want to contribute a poem, a dance, a play, etc....do, do, do it), and at least one effigy contribution (we're workin' on designs and procession plans at this time). Now, if you're wanting/planning/hoping to go and would like to camp with others from the upper midwest/great lakes area, just let me know. Also, if you want to contribute to any of the above projects, again, let me know....same with questions, comments, and critiques. Oh....and if you want to stay with us, but aren't able to be there the whole time....don't worry one bit about it...we'll make sure that you have a space to call your own.

The planning has begun!

Subject: CALL FOR ARTISTS AND PERFOMERS OF ALL VARITIES
Sent: Wednesday, October 18, 2006 4:38 PM
Eden Staff and Promotions is a non-profit organization who seeks to support local community charities with an emphasis on GLBT groups, and youth programs. Last year our first event was held called EDEN: Celebrating Life and Diversity at Talbott Street on 3/29/06. The event featured fire dancers, acrobatics, a decor theme, and three dj's (trance, industrial, house).

The EDEN event is fusion of art, culture, and music. The point of EDEN is to draw in Indianapolis' alt communities for a night of celebration.

We are seeking performers who would like to be apart of next years (07) event, as well as potential sponsors. If interested please write: eden.in.indy@gmail.com.

DJ tent at Lotus Festival 2006

Union Board's Live From Bloomington committee has been collaborating with the Lotus World Music Festival for about 10 years. This year we are planning a free DJ tent for the festival on Oct. 6th. We are talking to a Brazilian artist named Curumin about playing, so we are thinking about making the tent Brazilian themed. So if you are a DJ who plays Brazilian or Latin influenced music, send me an email at lfb@indiana.edu.

Also, we are looking for visual artists to participate, so hit me up if you or someone you know can make some tight graffiti art, or any other type of visual art!

If you have any ideas for this event or would like to be involved in any way, send us an email at lfb@indiana.edu.

For more info on the Lotus Festival, check out www.lotusfest.org

Thanks!
